I want a feature that isn’t in Echoes

Some Echoes users are not in the Announce Only To menu.

There are a few reasons for other users not showing up:

  • The user is not running Echoes on their Mac.
  • Their Mac is sleeping. Echoes can not receive messages when the Mac is sleeping.
  • Their Mac is not on the same network as your Mac. All Macs must be on the same Bonjour network. Generally, if you can see the Mac in the “Shared” section of the Finder’s sidebar (assuming they have File or Screen Sharing turned on), Echoes should be able to see them.
  • They are running firewall software that blocks Bonjour or Echoes access. If your Mac is running the OS X Firewall, make sure it allows Echoes to have Network access.

Your support staff asked be to send tracking information. How do I do that?

The tracking feature logs the performance and events that Echoes makes while it functions. Tracking keeps log files up to five days with this information that can get quite large. For this reason, Tracking is turned off by default. To turn it on follow these instructions:

  1. Choose the Preferences… command from the menu.
  2. In the Preferences window, choose Tracking from the Advanced popup menu.
  3. Perform the steps to reproduce the issue you were having.
  4. Go back to the Preferences window and choose Save Tracking File… from the Advanced popup menu.
  5. Save the report on your Desktop or another convenient location.
  6. Click the Contact Us button below and attach the Tracking report file to the message. Also tell us what steps you took to reproduce the issue and what happened.
  7. After you have sent us the message, you may turn tracking off again by choosing Tracking from the Advanced popup menu. The menu item should be unchecked after you do that.
